Google Buzzes in on Twitter
So Google Buzz is out, the new kid on the block in a market dominated by the likes of Facebook and Twitter. So, what does this mean to those that live for Social Media?
What is Buzz? Well if you imagine everything that you can do on Twitter and Facebook, remove all the bad bits, and put it all together, then you pretty much have Buzz. Is this a benefit? Probably yes. Twitter is limited, Facebook is annoying (see constant changes to the way it works, and the groups springing up to complain about it), Buzz aims to rectify and add unity to all that. Post, Reply and Follow as you would normally, add video, add links, add links from Flickr with thumbnails that enlarge when clicked, lots of things, all good, so they say.
Twitter started out as something quirky, a haven away from the heavy work of Facebook, but the more people who got on it, the more it became an essential Social Media tool. Buzz will certainly add content to that; easier ways to follow posts and replies (tracking); more info quicker.
The fact that Twitter is supported by Buzz shows that there is no intention of replacing, rather aiming to unite (or engulf), though if you can do everything from Buzz, will you still need Twitter. People aren’t going to jump ship, they will use one or the other, and most likely both. Will everyone suddenly rush to sign up for a Google Email account (this is what is required)? Probably not. Only time will tell.
Google has a habit of arriving late to the party, but this time it will be to their benefit. With so many things to update having a more powerful tool that can do them all under one roof, its going to be a winner, but don’t ditch that twitter account just yet.
